Bon, on ne va pas se mentir, ma recherche a été plutôt rapide car l'offre pour homme est très restreinte. Je n'ai donc que 2 marques à vous présenter, mais pas des moindres car il s'agit d'OKUN d'un côté et de BANTU WAX de l'autre. Commençons par Okun (dont j'avais déjà parlé dans un article précédent ici).

Okun est une jeune marque créée par Bola Marquis en 2012, qui propose des maillots de bain exclusivement pour homme avec des motifs inspirés de l'Afrique. Les maillots sont réalisés avec une matière technique caractéristique des maillots de bain, ils ne sont donc pas en coton comme certains pourraient le penser. Quant à leur confection, jusqu'à présent ils étaient produits en Europe, mais depuis le mois de juillet Okun travaille sur une production basée en Afrique.
En termes de positionnement, Okun est une marque premium, avec des prix allant de 75 à 126€ le maillot. Ils sont distribués un peu partout dans le monde et il est par exemple possible de les shopper à Paris (Au Bon Marché), à Tokyo ou même à Abu Dabhi. Enfin, une partie des bénéfices réalisées par la marque est versée à 2 fondations (Dada Marquis Fondation et Ethiopian Education Fund) qui oeuvrent pour l'éducation.

De son côté, Bantu wax est une marque Sud africaine de vêtements de plage pour hommes et femmes, née en 2008 et créée par la jeune designer Ethiopienne, Yodit Eklund.
Bien plus qu'une simple marque de maillot de bain, c'est tout un lifestyle autour du surf que Yodit Eklund essaie d'insuffler via Bantu Wax. Car pour elle, L'afrique a une longue tradition du surf restée méconnue du grand public et qu'il faudrait valoriser.
Les maillots sont confectionnés en Afrique, seule l'impression des motifs sur la matière technique des maillots de bain est réalisée en Europe (Italie). La marque est principalement distribuée aux Etats-Unis dans des enseignes tels que Barneys ou Opening Ceremony au Japon. De même qu'Okun, Bantu wax affiche un positionnement premium avec des prix allant de 66 à 92€ le maillot. La marque revendique une démarche écologique, durable et équitable dans sa chaîne de production en travaillant principalement avec la Côte d'Ivoire, l'Ethiopie et l'Afrique du Sud.
Cela étant posé, je ne sais pas si cela vous aide vraiment à choisir vers laquelle de ces deux marques vous vous laisseriez tenter? Car sur le papier et de manière objective, ces deux marques sont au TOP. Mais alors, comment faire osciller la balance d'un côté plutôt que de l'autre? Et c'est là que les outils marketing rentrent en jeu. De l'homme Okun à l'homme Bantu wax, duquel vous sentez-vous le plus proche?
Bantu Wax is a South African beachwear for men and women, created in 2008 by the young Ethiopian designer Yodit Eklund. More thant just a beachwear brand, it's a whole lifestyle around surf that Yodit Eklund tries to breathe through Bantu Wax. According to her, Africa has a long tradition of surfing remained unknown by the general public that needs to be valued.
All BAntu Wax products are made in Africa, only the print of the motive on the technical fabric is made in Europe (Italy). The brand in mainly distributed in the USA in shops like Barneys or Opening Ceremony in Japan.
As well as Okun, Bantu Wax is a premium brand with prices going from 66 to 92€. The brand also claims an ecological, sustainable and fair initiative by working mainly in Africa (Ivory Coast, Ethiopia & South Africa).
Ok, now that you know the basic about each brand, i'm not sure wether it really helps you to know which one to choose if you had to. Because on the paper and from an objective point of view these two brands are amazing! So how to choose one from another? this is where the marketing tools are making their entry. From the Okun man to The Bantu Wax man, which one amid them are you feeling the closest?
Finalement, tout n'est qu'une question de cible et de perception du message publicitaire.
L'homme Bantu wax semble être un homme plutôt jeune, sportif, libre et affranchi des conventions. Les visuels publicitaires n'hésitent pas à mettre cette esprit en avant en choisissant des modèles tatoués, cigarette à la main ou avec une planche de surf sous le coude.
A l'inverse L'homme Okun semble plus mûr, posé, mais qui sait prendre soin de lui, de son corps et sait également être un bon père de famille. Les visuels publicitaires "Dad & son" en sont un bon exemple!

The Bantu wax man seems to be young, sportsman, a free mind with no conventions. The ad campaign do not hesitate to highlight this idea by choosing tattooed models, cigarette in the hand or with a surfboard under the elbow.
On the contrary, The OKun man seems more mature, calm, but who knows how to take care of him, his body and also knows how to be a good father. The advertising pictures "Dad & son are a good example.
