GIVENCHY SS14 : " THE NEW ETHNIC"

Il y'a moins d'une semaine, je vous montrais les images de la collection SS 14 de la maison Emilio Pucci, clairement inspirée de la culture Massaï (ICI). Aujourd'hui, c'est au tour de la maison Givenchy de s'y coller. En effet, la ligne directrice dictée par Riccardo Tisci, son directeur artistique, est un voyage où s'entremêle des inspirations Massaï et amérindiennes. 

Ce n'est pas la première fois et sûrement pas la dernière qu'une grande maison de couture s'inspire de l'Afrique, bien au contraire, cela fait déja plus de 3 ans que cette tendance s'affirme. Par contre, ce qui est nouveau et mérite d'être souligné avec cette collection de Givenchy, c'est cette volonté affichée de définir "the new Ethnic", une manière de s'approprier cette tendance, de la faire sienne, tout en allant au delà afin d'en établir de nouveaux codes ... Ce n'est pas rien. Au delà de la pure et simple inspiration, il y'a une réelle réflexion, qui se joue actuellement autour de l'Afrique dans différents domaines artistiques... le monde semble se polariser envers l'Afrique, afrocentrist is the new cool, black is the new thing! (The big one)

Less than a week ago, i showed you pictures of Emilio Pucci's SS14 collection, clearly inspired by the Massaï culture (HERE). Today, it's the turn of the house Givenchy to stick to it. Indeed, the guideline dictated by Riccardo Tisci, his art director, is a journey between Africa and South America.

It's not the first time and certainly not the last one that a big fashion house is inspired by Africa, it's the case since more than 3 years now and this trend asserts itself. On the other hand, what is new and deserved to be underlined is this will shown to define "the new ethnic", a way of appropriating this trend, to make it his, while going beyond to establish it of new codes... That is quite something. Beyond the pure and simple inspiration, there is a real reflection concerning Africa in various artistic domains... the world seems to polarize to Africa. Afrocentrist is the new cool, Black is the new thing!
